Microsoft has created four new roles specifically for admins responsible for Microsoft Teams. Roles give people in your organization permission to do specific tasks in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

This new admin roles are now available to assign in your Microsoft 365 admin center or by using PowerShell.

Teams service admin

Can manage all aspects of Microsoft Teams except license assignment. This includes policies for calling, messaging, and meetings; use of call analytics tools to troubleshoot telephony issues, and management of users and their telephony settings.

With the first day of Ignite we already have some new feature announcements for Microsoft Teams

  • Background blur: In Teams users can blur the background so focus on what matters most.
  • Meeting recording: Meetings are no longer just a point in time experience. With meeting recording in Teams, you or other invitees who missed the meeting can playback recorded audio, video and content at any time. Pull up a transcript, powered by Microsoft Stream, and search for keywords so you can optimize your time while getting caught up.
  • Cloud video interop – Bring your existing room technology investments into Teams. Through partner offerings from Polycom, BlueJeans and Pexip, a full portfolio of legacy devices can now be full-fledged audio/video participants in Teams meetings with content sharing. Polycom’s CVI offering is available now, with Pexip and BlueJeans generally available by end of October.

Move your email conversation to Microsoft Teams

Do you recognize the situation that you have a Team in Microsoft Teams and members of the team keep sending you emails instead of using the chat and collaboration functions in Teams?

You can now move your email conversation including the attachments to your Teams channel and continue the conversation in your Teams channel.

In the Teams client while selecting the channel where you want to port your conversation to you can click on the … now select “Get email address”

Anonymous Meeting Join in Microsoft Teams

Microsoft has released the Anonymous Join feature for Teams Meetings.  You can use this feature by the following procedure.

  • Create and join a scheduled or adhoc meeting

  • Copy the meeting join information, you can do this by opening the meeting after creating.
  • Launch either Edge (In-Private) or Chrome (Incognito)   _ // Firefox and Safari are not supported yet_
  • Paste the meeting join URL into the address bar
  • When prompted, use the web client to join the meeting anonymously

The Command Bar–Microsoft Teams

Microsoft is releasing a new feature for the Teams client, the Command Bar. This feature allows you to quickly navigate the Teams client using shortcut commands that can be entered into the Search/Command Bar.

Some examples you can use:

Search for people, files and messages.

  • Change your status using - /busy, /away, /dnd
  • Look up a recent file and open the file using /files
  • Look up someone’s org using **/org **
  • Navigate to a channel using /goto
  • Call a person using **/call **
  • Try out other /commands

Have your Microsoft Teams meeting call you back

If you’ve got a Skype for Business Audio Conferencing license, you’re now able to dial out to your own phone number from a current meeting. This allows you to transfer meeting audio to your phone if you’re having network problems, need to get in the car or on a slow connection.

Click the “i” icon on top of the right screen.

Here you can type in your own phone number.
