What’s New in Microsoft Teams – June 2026

Microsoft continues to push Microsoft Teams far beyond being “just” a collaboration platform. The June 2026 release introduces several exciting features across Teams Phone, Meetings, Teams Rooms, and Microsoft Places, with one clear theme running through almost every announcement: Artificial Intelligence.

From AI-powered phone agents to smarter meeting experiences and intelligent workplace management, Microsoft is steadily building a communication platform where AI assists users throughout the entire collaboration journey.

Let’s take a look at the updates that stand out the most.

Teams Phone Agent brings AI to your service desk

Without question, the biggest announcement this month is the introduction of the Teams Phone Agent.

Instead of simply routing incoming calls through an Auto Attendant, Teams Phone Agent can actually understand what callers need, answer common questions, and even complete business processes using Microsoft Copilot Studio voice agents.

Imagine callers being able to:

  • Schedule appointments
  • Request invoices
  • Check order status
  • Answer frequently asked questions
  • Complete self-service tasks

When human assistance is required, the AI transfers the call to the appropriate employee while passing along the conversation context. This reduces repetition for the caller and helps agents resolve issues more efficiently.

Although currently available through the Frontier Public Preview, this is a strong indication of where Microsoft Teams Phone is heading.

Voicemail transcription gets a major upgrade

Voicemail transcription has been available for some time, but Microsoft is significantly improving the experience.

Teams now leverages Azure’s Fast Transcription API, delivering:

  • Higher transcription accuracy
  • Faster processing
  • Automatic language detection
  • Support for 14 additional languages

For organizations with multilingual users or international customers, this means voicemail becomes much more reliable and useful without requiring any manual language configuration.

Managing Teams Phone devices becomes easier

Organizations managing large numbers of Teams-certified phones will appreciate another welcome improvement.

IT administrators can now centrally manage applications installed on Teams Phone devices directly from the Teams Admin Center.

Benefits include:

  • Centralized application management
  • Standardized device configurations
  • Role-based app deployment
  • Reduced administrative overhead

It’s a relatively small feature, but one that can significantly simplify device lifecycle management.

Express Voice Enrollment removes friction

Microsoft is also making voice recognition much easier to enable.

Previously, users had to record a predefined script to create their Teams voice profile. With Express Voice Enrollment, Teams automatically builds the profile over the course of normal meetings after the user opts in.

That voice profile powers several intelligent features, including:

  • Speaker Recognition
  • Voice Isolation
  • IntelliFrame
  • Improved meeting transcripts
  • More accurate Copilot meeting recaps

This change lowers the adoption barrier considerably.

Users can now report suspicious calls

Security remains an important focus.

Teams users can now report suspicious phone calls directly from their call history, flagging them as:

  • Spam
  • Phishing
  • Malicious callers

These reports become available to administrators through both the Teams Admin Center and Microsoft Defender, allowing security teams to investigate potential threats more effectively.

As voice phishing continues to increase, this feature is a welcome addition.

Smarter and safer Teams Meetings

Teams Meetings also receives several noteworthy enhancements.

Smarter bot protection

Organizations increasingly rely on meeting bots for transcription, note taking and integrations. However, they also introduce new security risks.

Microsoft now allows administrators to separate suspected bots into a dedicated lobby where organizers must explicitly approve their admission.

This provides much greater control over automated meeting participants while maintaining support for trusted integrations.

Branded meeting reactions

Organizations can now upload custom reaction icons that match their branding.

Whether you’re hosting customer webinars, company-wide events or internal celebrations, reactions can now become part of your organization’s visual identity.

Better chat organization

Microsoft continues improving the Teams client experience by automatically organizing:

  • Muted chats
  • Meeting chats

into dedicated sections.

While this isn’t a headline feature, it helps reduce clutter for users with busy chat environments.

Microsoft Places keeps improving hybrid work

Microsoft Places continues to mature into a comprehensive workplace management solution.

One particularly interesting addition is Wi-Fi based workplace check-in.

When users connect to a trusted corporate Wi-Fi network, Teams can automatically update their work location, making it easier for colleagues to know who’s in the office.

Importantly, Microsoft has implemented this with privacy in mind:

  • Disabled by default
  • User opt-in required
  • No historical location tracking

It’s another step toward making hybrid collaboration more seamless.

AI arrives in Teams Rooms

Teams Rooms receives several AI-focused improvements this month.

Facilitator Agent

The new AI-powered Facilitator can:

  • Verify room readiness
  • Answer spoken questions
  • Help users join meetings
  • Retrieve information from the web

Instead of simply providing meeting hardware, Teams Rooms is gradually evolving into an intelligent meeting assistant.

IntelliFrame with people labels

Remote participants often struggle to identify who is speaking in conference rooms.

The new IntelliFrame enhancement solves this by automatically displaying participant names alongside each detected person.

It’s a subtle improvement that significantly enhances hybrid meeting experiences.

Better presenter experiences

Several improvements also target webinars and Town Halls, including:

  • Proximity Join for presenters
  • Improved front-of-room display controls
  • Better Android Teams Rooms support

These updates continue Microsoft’s efforts to make Teams Events a stronger enterprise webinar platform.

Device updates

Microsoft also announced several device-related updates.

New Certified for Microsoft Teams hardware includes:

  • Biamp BMA 360D ceiling microphone
  • Logitech Express Install meeting room bundles

Additionally, new firmware and application updates have been released for:

  • Teams Rooms on Android
  • Teams Rooms on Windows
  • Teams Phones from AudioCodes, Poly and Yealink

These releases primarily focus on stability, performance improvements and enhanced meeting experiences.

Final thoughts

The June 2026 update clearly demonstrates Microsoft’s long-term vision for Teams.

AI is no longer a standalone feature—it is becoming an integral part of every communication workflow:

  • Phone calls
  • Customer service
  • Meetings
  • Meeting rooms
  • Hybrid workplaces
  • Device management

Personally, I believe the Teams Phone Agent is the most significant announcement in this release. Combined with Microsoft Copilot Studio, it opens the door to intelligent voice automation that goes far beyond traditional auto attendants and IVR systems.

As Microsoft continues investing heavily in AI, organizations using Teams as their communication platform should keep a close eye on these developments.

The future of enterprise communication is becoming increasingly conversational—and Microsoft Teams is positioning itself right at the center of it.
