Manage Direct Routing Numbers in Teams Admin Center

Have you ever wanted to access your Direct Routing numbers directly in the Teams Admin Center? Well, according to a Message Center update, this long-awaited feature is set to roll out by February 2025.

What’s Changing?

With the introduction of Direct Routing Inventory Management, Microsoft is making it easier for Teams administrators to manage their Direct Routing numbers. Previously, tracking these numbers often involved using SharePoint lists, Excel spreadsheets, or, in some cases, no organized system at all.

Now, with this update, admins will be able to manage Direct Routing numbers alongside Operator Connect and Calling Plan numbers—directly in the Teams Admin Center.

How to Add Direct Routing Numbers

Admins will have multiple ways to add and manage Direct Routing numbers in their inventory:

  1. PowerShell You can use the New-CsOnlineDirectRoutingTelephoneNumberUploadOrder cmdlet to upload Direct Routing numbers. This method supports:
  • Single number uploads
  • Lists of numbers
  • Ranges of numbers

A maximum of 10,000 phone numbers can be uploaded at a time. If more than 10,000 numbers need to be uploaded, the requests should be divided into multiple increments of up to 10,000 numbers.

PowerShell Documentation

  1. Teams Admin Center (Preview) Currently in preview, Microsoft is also introducing the ability to upload and manage Direct Routing numbers directly within the Teams Admin Center. This will provide a user-friendly interface for managing numbers without the need for PowerShell scripting.

You can upload Ranges, one to many (comma separated) or by CSV.

Why This Matters

This update streamlines number management and reduces reliance on external tracking methods, ensuring that admins have a single pane of glass for managing all Teams phone numbers. Whether using PowerShell or the Teams Admin Center, this feature will significantly improve the way organizations handle their Direct Routing inventory.
